AI Roleplay Tools: What to Compare Before Choosing

Configurable AI roleplay tools let you shape fictional characters, supply world information, and adjust the instructions behind a conversation. SillyTavern, RisuAI and Agnaistic offer different ways to build that setup.

The catch? The interface isn’t the model generating the replies. Your model connection and settings matter alongside the character you create.

Compare Three Starting Points

These tools illustrate different workflows—not a tested ranking.

RisuAICustomizable character chat through web and app accessCheck your selected provider and prompt settings.
AgnaisticShared scenes with multiple people and AI charactersChoose how to host and preserve the conversation.

What Shapes the Conversation?

Think of it as two pieces: the interface that organizes your characters and the model that generates replies. Our local LLM guide explains how those pieces fit together.

Character definitions describe the persona you want to interact with. Lorebooks and world information provide additional context, while prompt settings influence how that information reaches the model.

Those controls can help you organize a story, but they don’t guarantee consistent recall. A saved conversation isn’t proof that every earlier detail will influence the next reply.

Group conversations deserve another check. Multiple AI characters and multiple human participants are different capabilities. Agnaistic explicitly supports shared scenes involving both; SillyTavern and RisuAI also document group-chat features.

Use these listings to check access options, documented controls, and limitations. Start with SillyTavern for a locally installed character workspace, RisuAI for web and app access with customizable prompts, or Agnaistic for shared scenes with other people.

Check Before You Start

Before committing to a setup, check:

  • Model connection: which backend generates replies, and what does it require?

  • Costs: are model usage, hosting, or optional services charged separately?

  • Story controls: can you edit character information, correct replies, and preserve important world facts?

  • Data handling: how are conversations stored, exported, shared, and deleted?

  • Content rules: what do the interface, connected provider, and character-sharing services allow?

SillyTavern’s documentation, RisuAI’s official project, and the Agnaistic guides explain their setup options.

A locally installed interface can still send prompts to a hosted provider. If you choose a local backend, our guide to choosing local AI models explains what to consider.

Try One Short Scene

Create one original fictional character with three facts and establish a world rule. Play a short scene, then ask something that depends on an earlier detail.

Return in another session and check what carries forward. Correct a contradiction and inspect whether that correction can be saved.

Record the model, settings, and anything you needed to restate. That’s a useful first check of your setup—not a Chagto benchmark or a guarantee of long-term continuity.
